Nigel Winterburn excited about Arsenal ahead of the 2019/2020 season

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has said that he is excited for the Gunners ahead of the forthcoming campaign, considering a number of young players could make the breakthrough under manager Unai Emery. The likes of Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson have made an impression under the Gunners boss this summer and Winterburn believes the duo could have a huge season ahead with the north London giants.

Speaking to Love Sport Radio, Winterburn believes his former club are moving in the right direction with the emphasis on introducing more young players into the first-team fold, he said: “I’m excited about what Arsenal have been trying to do, particularly in the last few days. I think what Arsenal needed to do is move this squad around a little bit.

I’ve been saying that for the last couple of seasons, and I like that Arsenal are introducing a couple of the younger players into the squad, and the players they’re bringing in are a bit younger as well. I like Willock for sure, midfield player, I think he’s very similar to [Aaron] Ramsey in that he makes a lot of forward runs, Reiss Nelson has been talked about for the last year and a half. I think he can break into the first team and it could be a huge season for him.”

The Gunners have made some quality business in the transfer window with four signings and among those, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe have caught the headlines. While Ceballos has joined on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, Pepe’s arrival has surprised many opposition fans, given the Gunners have spent a club-record of fee of around £72m.
Prior to next month’s transfer deadline, the club have been backed to reinforce the defence with a new centre-back and left-back. Celtic’s Kieran Tierney has been touted to fulfil the latter of those positions with the Gunners in advanced talks over a transfer agreement. Arsenal are currently at the final stages of pre-season with a couple of friendlies remaining against Angers and Barcelona.
