Steve Bruce has revealed that he is delighted with Danny Welbeck's progress. The on-loan Manchester United striker has played some part in all of Sunderland's games so far, coming off the bench on three occasions and starting the Carling Cup tie against Colchester.

Danny Welbeck, who has scored five senior goals for United, came off the bench against Manchester City and played a major role in Sunderland's 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light. He caused havoc with his darting runs infield from the left flank and could have had a goal himself before Darren Bent scored the winning goal from the penalty spot.

"Danny's something a bit different and when he came on he looked to take us forward," Bruce told safc.com.
