Martinez Denies Rumors Of Welbeck Move

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that the rumours linking his club with moves for Manchester United duo Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck are extremely untrue. However, he has admitted that the club already has a number of transfer targets in mind in order to build on for next campaign. This has been a great debut season for Martinez at Everton, as he has been able to take the club close to the fringes of top four. Everton remain one point behind Arsenal with three matches left.

The season’s success has largely been built on the performances of Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry. Welbeck has largely been a central figure for United this season under Moyes. However, his first-team spot is under threat after the sacking of Moyes. The forward has scored only 10 goals in his last 31 appearances in all competitions. As a result, he is ready to look at clubs apart from Manchester United for a regular first-team opportunity. This is also believed to be the case with Tom Cleverley as well.

Cleverley has come in for intense criticism from the United supporters itself for his poor performances this season. Since the club are expected to spend big in order to revamp the midfield, Cleverley will be pushed towards the exit door.

"Well, the crazy rumours are starting. There's nothing to mention. What there is to mention is that we'll use the window to try to be stronger in terms of the squad, and we'll look at all the players available and the possibilities that we need," said Martinez in response to the transfer rumours. The Spaniard also stated that he is confident that his predecessor David Moyes will be able to return to football management sooner rather than later. Moyes was sacked from the job after just 10 months in charge.
