SUNDERLAND SET TO LOSE WELBECK

Sunderland do not have any issues with regard to losing Danny Welbeck according to their manager. Welbeck was a hit during his loan stay with the Black Cats and, while boss Steve Bruce publicly admitted that there was no chance of a permanent move for the England Under-21 star, he privately held out hopes of another loan next season.

But those hopes were dashed this week as, during discussions between the clubs over a potential £12m triple move for Darron Gibson, John O’Shea and Wes Brown, the Red Devils made it clear that Welbeck will be a part of their first-team squad next season.

BRUCE HAPPY WITH WELBECK

Steve Bruce has revealed that is extremely happy with the way the strike partnership between Danny Welbeck and Gyan is working out. The striker returned from a knee injury in the 5-0 drubbing by Manchester City at the weekend - their sixth loss in the last seven league outings.

The Black Cats have not scored since Asamoah Gyan's strike in the 2-1 home defeat by Tottenham on 12th February but Bruce now hopes to rectify this statistic with increased competition in the squad.

WELBECK COULD PLAY FOR GHANA

Danny Welbeck could be playing for Ghana internationally rather than England. Danny Welbeck, who is currently on a very successful loan with Sunderland, was born in Manchester, England to Ghanaian parents. That means he can play for either England or Ghana, and his Ghanaian team mates at Sunderland, Asamoah Gyan and Johan Mensah are trying to persuade to join the 2010 World Cup quarter finalists. Gyan said:

"Myself and (John) Mensah have spoken to him about playing for Ghana. He has not made up his mind yet and says he needs more time to think through it.

FERGIE DENIES WELBECK TRANSFER RUMOURS

Alex Ferguson has denied that Danny Welbeck could be set for a permanent Sunderland move. There was no shock that Welbeck should be amongst the first to be mentioned.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a splendid first half-season on Wearside after joining on loan from Manchester United.

Even though he is currently sidelined following a minor knee operation, Danny Welbeck has proved himself capable of being a Premier League striker and if Ferguson offered any indication of being willing to sell, Bruce would be first in the queue.

WELBECK INJURED

Sunderland star Danny Welbeck has been injured and will be out for a few weeks due to hamstring injury. The 20-year-old forward, on loan from league leaders Manchester United, suffered the injury during the midweek match against Aston Tottenham.

Welbeck, who has scored six goals this season, could now miss four or five games, according to Sunderland.

The club also announced that Phil Bardsley did not rupture his cruciate ligament again in the same game.

BRUCE HOPING FOR A GIFT

Steve Bruce has said that he is hoping for a gift from Manchester United by getting Danny Welbeck permanently. The Manchester United striker is currently on a season-long loan at Bruce's Sunderland, having found first-team opportunities limited at Old Trafford.

Regular football has helped to bring the best out of him this term, with a number of eye-catching performances put in for the Black Cats.

WELBECK LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT GAME

Danny Welbeck has said that he is satisfied with the club's clean sheet against West Ham United and says that he is looking forward to more such performances. With Bramble and Turner both ruled out until the New Year with long-term knee injuries, Anton Ferdinand and a barely-fit John Mensah have been paired together in central defence for the last two games.

And after a shaky showing in the 3-2 defeat at Wolves 10 days ago, they looked much more solid in the 1-0 win over the Hammers at the weekend.

SAHA ADMIRES WELBECK

Louis Saha has marked out Danny Welbeck as one of English football's brightest up-and-coming youngsters and says that he admires his talent. The Frenchman, who will travel to Wearside with Everton on Monday, was a senior player at Manchester United when Welbeck was coming through the ranks.

And he immediately noticed the youngster's poise and talent, even amongst the myriad of stars at Old Trafford. Danny Welbeck - on loan at Sunderland from United until the end of the season - has impressed since being handed a run in the team, and his success comes as no surprise to Saha.

WELBECK GETS NEW DEAL

MANCHESTER United forward Danny Welbeck is set to be rewarded with a new four-year contract at Old Trafford, according to a report.

The Longsight-born star, 18, has made two appearances this season and scored the goal that knocked Wolves out of the Carling Cup.

Now boss Sir Alex Ferguson is set to reward the youngster with a new £12,000-per-week deal, report The Sun. Helooks a good sports bet to be a big player for United in the future.

Meanwhile, Belgian defender Ritchie De Laet has had his contract extended to 2012.

WELBECK DELIGHTS BRUCE

Steve Bruce has revealed that he is delighted with Danny Welbeck's progress. The on-loan Manchester United striker has played some part in all of Sunderland's games so far, coming off the bench on three occasions and starting the Carling Cup tie against Colchester.
