Arsene Wenger respects the decision taken by Jamie Vardy

Arsene Wenger respects the decision taken by Jamie Vardy to remain at Leicester City.

Arsenal have been interested in the Leicester City forward, who was a major factor in the league title race 2015-16. Even though he is at 29 years of age, Arsenal identifiedVardy as someone who can improve the team immensely going forward. The club do have a great compliment of strikers in the form of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, but the recent injury struggles for the latter has left the club in a difficult position. Welbeck has suffered another major knee injury just a few weeks after returning from almost a season on the sidelines.

He is set to miss a chunk of the 2016-17 season and Arsenal are not ready to gambleon the return of the forward it seems.Vardy had a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave the club for £20 million. Keen to take advantage of this position, Arsenal met his release clause and were allowed to talk with the player, who was on international duty with the England national team. However,Vardy has chosen to remain loyal to the club, who gave him a chance to play in the Premier League. Only a few years ago,Vardy was playing in nonleague.

"I think Leicester have made a statement and Vardy will stay. We were on the case and interested, but not more than that.He has decided to stay at Leicester and good luck to him. He came late to the game and in fairness Leicester bought him from Fleetwood and he has been successful. He is 29 and he has chosen to stay at Leicester. You have to respect that. Kante is on the list of many clubs. It is an area where we have many players,” said Wenger.
